Why We Need To Close The Institutions
Because we are human, we have human rights.
In the past, people with disability have not been treated as equals.
We need to change that.
Australia has agreed to a set of rules called the 'UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities'.
In the rules, it says that people with disability should be able to live on their own in the community, with support.

Many people with disability are told that they need to live together so that they can get the support they need.
The Australian and State Governments promised to close the institutions.
They haven't done that yet.
We need to give people enough support so that they can live wherever they choose.
